Matt Burri is an active orchestral double bassist who performs as Assistant Principal Bass of the West Michigan Symphony and Section Bass with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra. As a freelancer, he has been fortunate enough to perform in Carnegie Hall on two different occasions. He currently teaches private lessons to students of Indian Prairie School District 204 at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville. Before settling down in the West Suburbs, Matt performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago in Symphony Center for two years. During this time, he taught at The People's Music School, a tuition free program serving communities in need of music education.
Matt completed his Masters Degree at Indiana University Bloomington, where he was an Associate Instructor for two years. It is here he honed his skills teaching elective double bass lessons to college students. He considers himself incredibly fortunate to have been able to take double bass pedagogy with master teacher Lawrence Hurst. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Matt earned his Bachelors Degree at San Jose State University. He enjoys walking, biking, computer games, and playing guitar. Primary teachers include Kurt Muroki, Scott Pingel, and Bruce Moyer.
